September 11, 2021 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm

Donna Selfridge Spangler featured Fraktur artist at Fort Roberdeau’s Distaff Day

Donna Selfridge Spangler, Master Artisan specializing in Frakturs will be featured to conclude Distaff Day, a celebration of women’s 18th century domestic and artistic skills. Donna will talk about the history and role of fraktur in Pennsylvania German society. Early examples of fraktur art, as well as her own original art, will be on display. Visitors can watch as Donna demonstrates the use of writing instruments and inks to create traditional fraktur designs – flowers, birds, vines, and hearts – and the flowing letters of calligraphy.

Having lived most of her life surrounded by the beauty of the central Pennsylvania mountains and the heritage of the Pennsylvania German culture, Donna enjoys connecting today’s families with the past by creating lasting heirlooms of family trees, birth and wedding announcements, and inspirational verses that are cherished by people worldwide.

Donna is recognized as a Master Artisan by the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and is listed in the Artisan Directory of Early American Life Magazine. Donna Selfridge Spangler, Master Artisan, specializing in Frakturs is presented by the American Revolution Round Table of Central PA in conjunction with the Fort Roberdeau Association.
